Getting to the Academy:
Attendance at the Academy, while 'affordable', does come at a cost. Paying that cost may come in one of several ways:
1) The Student pays directly. Unlikely unless the student is Wealthy or had a very lucrative previous year.
2) The Student receives a loan (from the Academy or elsewhere) to pay his way, and then may make payments on this loan.
3) The Student receives a scholarship (from the Academy or elsewhere) based on personal merits.
4) The Student's tuition is paid by a Patron (usually an organization or the student's parents), which will expect returns on its investments...
Costs of Living:
Tuition. Most courses have a minimum 'price' of 50s per credit hour, to pay for basic administrative costs, the professor, the seats, the walls, etc.
Required Equipment. Certain courses require the purchase (directly or indirectly) of additional materials, be it calculators or chimera tails.
Textbooks. Easily the worst part, generally costing an additional 20s to 100s or more depending on the course, the professor, and publishers. In general, one should expect to pay around 500s to 1000s per semester for books.
Lab Fees. Courses that require special facilities almost invariably include a lab fee (and an additional 20 to 100s surcharge).
Insurance. Generally recommended to replace accidental losses of life, limb, and occasionally property; fee is HIGHLY variable, but usually charged on as-needed basis.
Dorm Fees. Usually moderately less expensive than living in town, and only moderately more inconveniencing...
Other Fees: All students are generally charged for various organization fees, library fees, cafeteria fees, etc. on a yearly basis.
Food and Drink: Everyone needs food money, whether for home-prepared chicken parmesan or roadside stand pizza.
Supplies: Everything else from notebooks to blenders.
General Activities:
Classes. Generally held in a particular building at a particular time.
Lab Work. Making use of one of the Academy 'labs', generally for intermediate to advanced classes.
Field Expedition. Trips outside of Academy grounds for on-site lessons. Target dimension may vary.
Shopping. The local sales outlets are nothing to sneeze at, and ATLAS can take you to some strange locations...
Partying. What's academy life without a few wild parties?
Extracurricular Activities. Everyone has their own troubles to get into.
Special Projects. When your grades need that extra nudge, or your teacher has 'special course requirements'...
Tests and Exams. Nothing ruins a week like a big test.
Studying. What you should be doing in your off hours. Riiight.

Shared occupancy rooms are generally about 75% of the cost of a single-occupancy room.
Base starting cash: 5000s.
Cost of one semester: 750s for classes, 1000s for books, 800s for housing. Better get a job...

In general, most jobs pay about 1/4s the amount normally in $. And yes, the 5 day work week remains, even if there's only six days in the week. Suck it up. Unfortunately, the base cost of most goods remains roughly the same (1s = 1 loaf of bread or several packets of ramen.)
Most stores on campus accept the Passcard as a form of payment; all stores accept local currency.
Legarro looks TL4, but the influence of the Academy means that technically, TL9 gadgetry and such is also available.
