Basic Game Format:
All new characters begin at 100 character points, as new freshmen of LAMAA. In general, character advancement is as follows:

100 pts - Freshmen.
125 pts - Sophomores.
150 pts - Juniors.
175 pts - Seniors.
200 pts - Graduates.

A semester lasts about 1/3 year; students usually have 15 credit hours of courses per year. From a practical standpoint, the levels here are provided as a guide, not a rule.

Freshmen take a large number of introductory courses; some are precisely the same regardless of major, providing a fertile meeting ground for new folks. They are considered the lowest rung on the student totem pole (though still above staff and visitors), but are generally protected from the worst hazards of campus life.

Sophomores are just worldly enough to treat freshmen with disdain, but still aren't as 'all that' as they'd like to think. Courseload increases, as does the frequency of surprise required courses (and the occasional utter disappearance of a major, necessitating a change in major). Sophomores have more lab work, field expeditions, and special projects.

Juniors are fairly good at surviving campus life, and generally quite capable. They study advanced courses, play with dangerous things, and often engage in other campus activities. Whether laid-back or diligent, they are usually very busy.

Seniors are oh-so-close to the coveted LAMAA-skin, but their courselist is generally full of advanced courses (and last-minute requirements), and they are often busy dealing with countless numbers of personal matters (like who to bribe to get the sorority hall walls turned transparent for the big party, or where to get a good skeleton key made.)

Professors (300 - 500 pts or more): Generally not the sort you want to start trouble with, all LAMAA professors (from new applicants to wizened chairthings of their department) are schooled by years (sometimes centuries) of experience, scholastic and otherwise.

Deans (500 - 1000 pts or more): The folk heading each college of the Academy are generally capable of surviving nearly anything (including campus life), but most prefer to downplay their advantages. They have a very diverse skill base, and a sizable power base to rest it on.

Headmaster (? pts): The current Headmaster of the Academy is a wanderkin sage by the name of Sam Berrydrink, who had an active mercenary career throughout the Second Godwar, and now handles a new type of army. His predecessor, a dark elf known only as Fenjar, still lives on the grounds somewhere...

Devos/Devas (50 pts or more): An engineered person designed for office work and eye candy. Most are none too bright, though secretaries of higher-ranking officefolk tend to be more competent. Their name derives from their origin point (Evolution Farms in Fenisto.)

Staff (25 to 100 pts or more): Most Academy staff are ordinary folk trying to make a living, who aren't too picky about their work environment. A few are actually pretty competent, but this is a rare phenomenon. Students occasionally find themselves drafted into staff positions, particularly if their professor needs some extra hands.

Gardenelves (50 pts): These elves are 'natives' of the Academy area, and are responsible for watering, feeding, pruning, and tending to its wide assortment of plantlife. They generally can speak to plants, as well as each other and in (broken) Universal Common. They are surprisingly difficult to startle, but have no real combat ability as far as anyone knows. (However, their fellow plant life will generally help them if they ask...)

Security Squad (50 to 200 pts or more): Occasionally known as the Academy Security Squad by people who love acronyms, Security's job is to deal with anything that threatens the Academy (including invading armies, rival academies, students, student projects, rampaging gods, ballistic missles, and other everyday terrors.) Students may earn extra money by working for Security, but most applicants are hired for not knowing better or for exceptional competence. The standard outfit for Security is a black bodysuit, combat helmet, and the Strongarm (a heavy rifle that fires bolts of lightning to stun and shock the target). In emergenicies, better equipment is usually made available. Security Squad assignments automatically include health insurance at no charge - it's a requirement.

Janitaurs (100 pts or more): The cleaning crew of the Academy is composed primarily of minotaurs, capable of moving large amounts of refuse or rubble and handling impromptu violence. However, the janitaurs steer clear of actual combat when possible - after all, that's Security's problem. Not a few are known to go berserk on litterers and graffiti artists, though... The head janitaur seems especially adept at being where he needs to be, and generally swings a large hammer around on a loop on his wrist wherever he goes.

Medics (100 - 300 pts or more): Widely varied in personal experience and talents, medics are almost invariably undergraduate or graduate students who work at the Medical Center as part of their curriculum. Grad students are more likely to be developing and testing new techniques, while undergrads deal with most menial surgeries, healings, corpse recovery, etc.
