Random Facts
The LAMAS' traditional team name (and mascot) is 'The Raging Lionaires'. Lionaires are tawny white lions with tufts of blue fur at their paws, the tip of their tail, and the entirety of their mane, and have large white feathery wings. Lionaires are said to be holy avengers, delivering justice upon the most evil of souls; the Raging Lionaires are much less holy and much more focused on winning at their chosen sports.
The traditional LAMAS Orientation Tour is conducted every year by an Advanced Nexican Survival student who has been at the campus at least two full years. Orientation is considered one of the most interesting times to be a student, due to the craziness of rival campuses attempting to disrupt college activities and swipe students!
Student Council
The Student Council is presently suspended after allegations that several members of the Council (President Karl Wyatt, Quartermaster Jonas Vellum, Treasurer Mongo Clyde, and Councilor Jeanette Threep) were actually sequestered in basement cryogenic stasis modules and replaced. In addition, as the remainder of the council (Shykee Martin, Maya Aelera, Chuck Kronk, Elena Marlowe, Ferdinand Quince, Octavio Phoenix, and Marissa Vandergard) were appointed by this fake president, the council has been disbarred until such time as true identities can be discerned and student records can be updated.
Closed for administrative recess.
Junior Academy
LAMAS also owns and operates the Junior Academy, which is a close (but well-protected) neighbor academy that provides tutelage for students, usually between the ages of 10 and 17 (1st Year to 8th Year.) The Junior Academy has easier curriculum requirements, but its students attend class four days a week, six hours a day (plus a one-hour lunch break, and one hour's worth of pass periods.) Students learn in the following areas:
* Sciences - Laws of physics, magic, psionics, and other natural principles.
* Geography - An understanding of Arcydea's unique structure and diverse features.
* Mathematics - From basic math to trigonometry.
* Language - Generally, students are required to learn Universal Common and at least one other language, and have an understanding of literature and poetry.
* History - Basic understanding of Arcydean history, important dates, etc.
* Gymnastics - Physical activities important for development and for letting kids experience diverseness of activity.
* Art and Music - A variety of artistic pursuits meant to broaden developing minds.
* Electives - Additional activities students can engage in.
The Junior Academy also offers accelerated learning courses for particularly gifted youths, and remedial learning for slow learners or late attendees. Junior Academy costs an average of 1200s per semester, or more if accelerated or remedial courses are required in addition to normal courses. The Junior Academy is located on the far west end of Academy grounds, and is walled off and protected from the Academy proper; further, the Junior Academy is strictly off-limits to Academy activities, and students are fully covered by Academy Health Insurance for incidents resulting from Academy / Junior Academy activities. Graduates of Junior Academy are eligible for scholarships to attend LAMAS, depending on their grades and talents.
