Every revolution was first a thought in one man's mind
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

General Rules:
1.  You must be at least 16 years old and demonstrate a basic maturity to play.

2.  Read all the rules on this page. Be sure this is a place you'd like to play before applying.

3.  Fill out the application.

4.  You must join both the RP community and the OOC community once you are accepted. Please keep your OOC commentary to the OOC community (for obvious reasons).

5.  Be kind to your fellow players - if you have a dispute, bring it to the moderator.

6.  If you have any questions about these rules or the application, feel free to contact the mod.

Character Rules:
1.  Please apply with only ONE character. If you wish to play multiple characters and can keep up with them, you are more than welcome to do so. But first, your initial character concept must be approved and played.

2.  All characters must be your own original creation. You may not play a canon character from Buffy or Angel. This isn't about those characters; they've had their story told and retold countless times. This is your chance to make your own story.

3.  Your character doesn't have to be mister-goody-two-shoes, but no villians, please. Your character may have selfish reasons for wanting to ensure the survival of humanity (for example: 'It's good for business' coming from a merchant, or 'because then I wouldn't have anyone to eat, damnit' coming from a disgruntled vampire) - but for the most part, s/he must work with the good-guy team. Villians, bad guys, etc. will be run by the mod.

4. Your character must have a good balance of abilities and flaws. No 'completely helpless damsel in distress' or 'super-good-at-everything guy' characters will be accepted.

5.  Due to the structure of RP in this game, your character must have a separate journal used only for this game.

RP Rules:
1.  Do not harm, kill, maim, use, or abuse somone else's character without prior permission of that character's player.

2.  You, the players, are in control of the direction this game takes. So how you organize as a group, what you try to do to stop the Guardians, what direction the action takes, is primarily up to YOU.  Yes, you can try to do anything that your character would reasonably be able to do - but remember, not every action will succeed and there are often in-game consequences for successes and failures. If there's something you're not sure your characters would be able to do, just message the mod and talk it over. I don't bite.

3.  There are no set 'ships' or 'preferred character sexuality'. Characters can be straight, gay, bi, monogomous, poly, whatever.  Please keep content to an R level, and place an LJ-cut/warning on anything overtly sexual.

4.  Angst for angst's sake is bad. Angst that fits in with the story or your character's personal issues is fine, but not required by any means. Be realistic with the problems you cause your character. Don't have him be sodomized by wolverines, for example. That's just right out.

5.  We may have weekly(ish) AIM chat play, either to advance the story when specific events are going on, or to just hang out and help character development. Attendance will never be required, but is certainly encouraged.

6.  A summary of each week's RP will be posted in the OOC community to help everyone keep up with what's going on.

7.  Each week, a character development question (or questions, perhaps) will be posted to the OOC community. For example, 'what about your character is heroic?' or 'how does your character like his eggs?'. Answering this question is optional, but should be fun!

8.  Players will have the option to make a character sheet for their character using the BTVS Eden rules. This is not required, and you can play the game without doing so. However, creating a character sheet allows you to earn experience and drama points for your posts and in-game actions, which may then be used to improve your character and/or effectiveness in game situations.

Posting Rules:
1.  Two types of posts will be made in this game:

Action Posts
These posts will take place in the community, in third person. These posts allow for RP in the comments by any character who chooses to respond to that scene, that would reasonably be in that area. We do not believe in Open/Closed posts - use common sense. If it's a place where your character wouldn't be, don't go there. We also do not believe in Posting Order. Every character is an indivdual - if Character A responds with a better, faster plan than Character B, them's the breaks.  Some action posts will be started by the mod, but anyone can make one! They don't have to be grand, exciting actions- they can be as simple as a character hanging out somewhere in a place where others can encounter that person and interact. You should either make, or participate in these posts with a quality reply once per week.

Journal Posts
These posts will be first person journal style entries that are posted to your character's personal journal. Because each character is a friend of the community, these will be visible by checking the Friends page.  Characters' journal entries can be used to describe what the character is feeling about current events, provide backstory in the form of 'flashbacks' or reflecting on the past, detailing small things that the character has been up to that don't warrant action posts, etc. These posts are a great oppertunity for character development. It is important to note that while you, the player, can read these journals, your character can not. Therefore, anything you learn from reading a character's journal is OOC knowledge that you should keep separate from your own character's IC knowledge. If you have a hard time keeping OOC and IC separate, this is not the game for you.

2.  Please try to post at least ONCE every TWO WEEKS per character in that character's personal journal. At least ONCE a WEEK , write or reply to an action post in the community.

3.  Post title structure should be as follows:

Action post

IC Date / Approximate time / Location / Short description of scene purpose
Examples: 2/14/12 / Morning / Val's room / Casual conversation
or 3/2/12 Evening / Guardian HQ/ Staff Meeting

Journal Post
IC date (if applicable) / Description
Example:
2/14/12 Martin's thoughts on anarchy
or Flashback - ten years ago -  Adam's childhood

4.  There is no 'posting order'. Post and reply where you want to, when you want to, as long as it makes logical IC sense. Similarly, there is no set storyline you must follow. The mod will provide the world background and advance the plot along here and there (and provide feedback on how player actions affect the area), but for the most part, it is player actions and relations that will determine the story. Post post post. It's fun and oh-so-good for you.
