Points, Renown, and Star Power

The lifeblood of an Actor's career is Star Power - that ineffable symbol of status that proves who's the best of the best. In order to earn Star Power, Actors must accumulate Renown - an arbitrary number that signifies their connections within the industry, their popularity, and the general interest of the public in their day-to-day activities. Higher amounts of Renown result in more Star Power, which in turn means better Roles, more opportunities, and access to special Perks.

There are several ways to earn Renown within Shooting Stars, but the best way to earn it is by playing a Role in a Show. Whenever an Actor plays a Role, they earn Renown based on two factors:

1) The popularity of the Show itself (its current Ratings). Ratings are a figure that is attached to each Show - it increases (or decreases) between Episodes as audiences react to the previous Episode, critics weigh in with their opinions, and so forth. Actors have some influence over Ratings with the skill of their performances.

2) The degree to which they participated in the Show (measured in Points.) Points serve as a semi-arbitrary measure of each Actor's performance, and is calculated based on the time spent playing, their furtherance of the Plot, their sheer entertainingness, and their ability to play well within the Show and its Genre. The better your Actor performs, the more Points they earn.

Renown earned from a particular Episode of a Show is distributed to Actors based on the amount of Points earned within that Episode.
